  • At the President of Station Square's residence; Sally, Bunnie, Antoine and Rotor are knocking at Sonic and Tails' door, waiting for them to meet with the President. Tails asks if they can play another video game first, but Sonic reminds hi that they have to deal with the dragon that's been attacking the city. The President introduces the Knothole Freedom Fighters to Commander Brass, his military strategist. Brass determines they need to destroy the dragon immediately. Sonic starts dozing, but Sally wakes him up and asks Brass to continue. Brass suggests that Paladin Team Sigma-Alpha 2 goes with them as back-up, and Sonic starts laughing at them, remembering that he easily defeated them the last time they met. Sally covers for Sonic's behavior by claiming that it's a Mobian custom for respect. Later; Sonic, Bunnie, Tails and the Paladin Team head to Pyro Island. Sonic and his friends start to sing a song to lighten the mood, but the members of the Paladin Team think they're not treating the mission seriously enough. Some of the Paladin Team members notice their comrades, Rico and Spike, have gone missing. The remaining Paladin Team members split up to find their comrades, leaving Sonic's group alone. Sonic, Bunnie, and Tails quickly find the dragon's lair behind a waterfall and are shocked to find Dulcy inside. Dulcy explains that the dragon that attacked Station Square was her mate Zan. Zan appears, and Dulcy tries to explain that Sonic and his friends aren't their enemies and tells Sonic that the Overlanders attacked them a few days ago to try and take Pyro Island for themselves. Bunnie notices Dulcy's arm is hurt, and Zan tells them to leave his home immediately. Sonic and Tails try to reason with Zan, telling him they need to talk things out before things get out of hand. Zan tries to tell Dulcy that her "friends" don't care about her when the Paladin Team attacks. They decide to target Dulcy as well, and Sonic dismantles their guns to stop them. Zan prepares to attack the defenseless humans, but Dulcy pleads for him to stop. He attacks Dulcy, sending her flying out of the cave, and Sonic retaliates. Outside of the cave, Bunnie and Tails exit the lair and try to comfort Dulcy. Bunnie realizes that it was Zan that hurt her arm and tells Dulcy that she can't stay with someone who hurts her. While Sonic and Zan battle in the cave, the Paladin Team sets off a series of explosives that cause a cave-in. Sonic spins out from under the ground, but Zan remains buried as smoke pours from the rocks covering the cave. At Station Square, the President confirms from Commander Brass that the dragon has been defeated and shakes Sally's hand, agreeing to their deal to accept the Overlander refugees. Back on Pyro Island, Sonic, Tails, Bunnie, and Dulcy mourn Zan's death.
