  • __NOWYSIWYG__ Hey all! so i had recently took it upon my self to create an article for the airbending subskill flight. whilst it is apart of the airbending specialized techniques, i find that it lack a proper depth in regards to the history of the skill and its usage and limitations, here is what i propose though is of course not completed and is still a working progress, am open to editing thoughts and contributions : It should also be known that Zaheer was able to fly faster than an airship whilst carrying an unconscious Korra. Known Users - Guru Laghima - Zaheer

  • __NOWYSIWYG__ Hey all! so i had recently took it upon my self to create an article for the airbending subskill flight. whilst it is apart of the airbending specialized techniques, i find that it lack a proper depth in regards to the history of the skill and its usage and limitations, here is what i propose though is of course not completed and is still a working progress, am open to editing thoughts and contributions : Flight Flight is the sub-skill of airbending that constitutes for the users method of travel. This skill allows the airbender to defy gravity and move through the air as if they were weightless. Being able to fly without an aid such as a glider grants the practitioner more stability and freedom in the sky, while also permitting the use of bending mid-flight. Before such a sub-skill was known, many airbenders needed the aid of a glider or a wingsuit in order to travel through the air without the assistance of a Sky Bison. History Whilst being first utilized by the Sky Bison, The first record of this sub-skill being used by a human was discovered by an airbender name Guru Laghima. Guru Laghima grew up at the Northern Air Temple, where he began writing poetry about subjects such as instinct and illusion. Through his writings of illusion, he discovered the secret to weightlessness, that being relinquishing his earthly attachments. Once untethering himself from the earth Laghima achieved flight and was able to live the last portion of his life untethered from the earth.[4] Whilst having achieved this feet, Laghima's success became more of a legend then of a historic step for the airbending culture. The second human practitioner of this ability was the airbender Zaheer. Highly influenced by the teachings of Guru Laghima, his literature profoundly impacted Zaheer, who used his poem about the false nature of instinct to realize that basing expectations of reality on what was immediately observable blinded oneself from the possibilities of something new coming to light.[3] Consequently, he believed that the guru had truly discovered the ability of flight, and after gaining airbending, Zaheer attempted to obtain the ability himself.[2] It wasn't till the death of P'Li's,that Zaheer was able to let go of his final earthly tether and unlocking the ability of flight. It was through the actions of Zaheer that resulted in the guru's abilities being recognized amongst the modern airbenders and no longer being dismissed as legends. In order for airbenders to achieve this unique skill, they are to firstly recognize the illusion of expectation and gravity itself, inorder to open oneself to new possibilities. Secondly the airbender is required to 'relinquish their earthly attachments', attachments of loved ones, their homes and thier Sky Bison companion. Once untethered the airbend will truly be 'free' unlocking the abilight of flight. Usage Primarily this skill allows the airbender to defy gravity and move through the air as if they were weightless. Being able to fly without an aid such as a glider grants the practitioner more stability and freedom in the sky, while also permitting the use of bending mid-flight. This allows the airbender to travel long distances without the need of their Sky Bison or an airship and to dodge any obstacles that they would face if grounded. Flight has been proven to be highly useful in combat as demonstrated within the battle of Zaheer and Korra, allowing Zaheer to dodge attacks from the Avatar and to make quick counter attacks. It should also be known that Zaheer was able to fly faster than an airship whilst carrying an unconscious Korra. Limitations Although a powerful technique, the ability is hindered by additional weight and the currents of the wind. As demonstrated during the battle between Zaheer and Korra, Korra had frozen Zaheers foot in a block of ice, which was heavy enough to pull Zaheer back to the ground. As weight is an important feature to consider, the user must be weary of what they choose to carry with them when traveling. Known Users - Guru Laghima - Zaheer Now it has been put forth to me by an admin that the current content we have under the specialized techniques have 'sufficient' information which i obviously disagree with. I also believe that if it is claimed that no such article is needed to create a page for a subskill if it has sufficently content in their respective bending art's specialized technique then i would like to raise attention to Earthbendings subskill Seismic sense, which not only identify's the origin of the ability, badgermoles, but it also highlights the first and second human practitioners of the bending ( Toph and Aang) it also highlights its limitations as needs direct contact with the ground and also highlights its participation in the invention of metal bending and lie detection. Thanks for your time Tinathestar 16:42, February 15, 2015 (UTC) I agree that the current information we have is sufficient and we do not need to create a new article since the uses were barely shown either. 17:29, February 15, 2015 (UTC)
