- Ai Weiwei, based in Beijing, is one of the most important presense in contemporary Chinese art. Ai was a member of the early avant garde group in China Stars in 1979. He spent the 1980's in New York City. He establsihed an art center in Beijing where doezens of Chinese contemporary art galleries and artists have emerged, including, Ma Liuming and Zhang Huan. Now, Ai Weiwei is working with the Swiss architects, Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron for China's national Olympic stadium due for the 2008 Olympic games.
- One of the most popular comics on Smack Jeeves, Alternate is a comedy that follows an Insufferable Genius named Skye McGregor who is determined to be the BEST. His goal goes untarnished until he encounters Xin and Bailey, a happy-go-lucky pair of best friends who seize Skye's plans of academic success and promptly proceed to screw it up. Add in a cult-like newspaper club to the mix, and Hilarity Ensues. The comic is by Nozmo and is three chapters and three years in-progress. - An Alternate timeline, known informally as an alternate, was the term used by Crosstime Traffic to describe the various timelines where they established business. An alternate timeline was a world where historical decisions and events had not gone the way they had in the home timeline. Alternates with oppressive regimes or hard conditions, such as those destroyed by nuclear war, were helped by CT, though this wasn't always so. Fraternizing with someone from an alternate was discouraged, though an employee bringing a lover to the home timeline was not unknown.
- In the ninth season premiere, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler suspect that Janis Donovan (played by Cynthia Nixon), a woman with Dissociative Identity Disorder, may have harmed her own daughter. Their investigation is met with initial resistance from Dr. Henry Carlisle (played by Bronson Pinchot). Captain Don Cragen is temporarily reassigned due to problems with his detectives last season. The detectives end up discovering that Janis has 4 other alternate personalities. As the episode progresses, the detectives witness these personalities, culminating when one of Janis's personalities throws a chair across the room. Later in the episode, Janis and her sister Cass are reunited after serving time in jail. The day after Janis and her sister go home together, their parents are foun

Such alternates were exploited for their resources to feed the hungry, resource-scarce Home Timeline by the Crosstime Traffic. However, the company was always in the fear that one of the alternates were advanced enough to travel to different alternates and have trading enterprise and would be hostile toward competition. Alternates with oppressive regimes or hard conditions, such as those destroyed by nuclear war, were helped by CT, though this wasn't always so. Fraternizing with someone from an alternate was discouraged, though an employee bringing a lover to the home timeline was not unknown.

In the end of the episode, it is discovered that everything was an act cooked up by Janis's sister in order to fake a motive to kill their parents in revenge for being abused by them. When Detective Stabler and Benson go to visit Janis in the psychiatric hospital, Janis confesses to everything assuming she got away with it, but then the detectives arrest her sister in front of Janis, who was also visiting with her sister, for being a co-conspirator and is taken away in cuffs, while Janis has to look in horror.
