abstract
  • The Italian Communist Party was the only political party in the Italian People's Republic. As such, it dominated all aspects of Italian life. Members of the Party usually were given a higher level of deference and prestige in Italian society. Cristoforo Mazzilli was a midlevel functionary of the Italian Communist Party, serving as the second Party secretary of the Milanese Bureau of Records. The Party was swept in power in the late 20th century in a wave of anti-American sentiment that led to the Soviet Union's victory in the Cold War. Its leaders, Chiapelli and Moroni were seen as heroes of the people into the 21st century. (However, Soviet leaders were much more important).
