  • The party visits Talespinner for more information on the prophecy regarding a giant bearing orichalchum tongs. They hear the tale of Ralph the Mad.The party returns to Denandsor in search of the third manse mentioned by Houston. They find an empty space that seems to have the energy flow of a manse--on an empty space.Upon Takara's dangerous but (for once!) accurate suggestion, Amber stops playing the song warding off threats. Someone commands them to leave, but they refuse. When they ask the voice to show itself, a wall of the manse appears, nearly hitting Largo, then disappears again. The party manages to convince the manse to reappear and provide them with hearthstones. They ask if it wants anything, and it requests that the party help a fellow manse, in Thorns. The party retrieves the hearthstone and presents the gem of unified action to Houston. He grudgingly gives them more information on the manse at Denandsor. It used to be Solar-aspected but is now Earth-aspected. They return to the manse, which they now realize is mostly underground. They venture down and find a room with five doors, each with an element label. In each room, they find the corresponding element: flames, vines, a stone wall, sky, and a whirlpool. In each room, they find a sygil of the element. They attune to each, reappearing in the central chamber with the door missing. When they complete the five, they find themselves in a central chamber with four doors: solar, abyssal, lunar, and sidereal. They solve each of these rooms. In the abyssal room, dark blobs start attacking. Largo disperses most of them, but one surrounds Kai. She sees the city of Denandsor when it was at its prime, the inhabitants looking unhappy and listening to Kai. She assures them that she and the others will do their best to restore the city to its former glory. They find themselves in a dark workshop. There are several artifacts, which need to be unmade: a ring (earth), a feather (air), a cup (water), a sword (fire), and a pile of ashes (wood; had been a rod, still was an artifact). There is also a hearthstone, which seems to be corroding a large dark machine. They remove the hearthstone, but it doesn't work properly since there is still a darkness. The party contacts Jack Mansebuilder, who comes to check things out. He suggests detaching the machine from the manse, so they send it through the heavensgate. The manse is much nicer, and they set about restoring the manse to a solar aspect. They feng shui everything, make windows and place mirrors. They discover the full power of the hearthstone (the Stone of Serendipity): it changes shape, providing the perfect answer to whatever the user needs, even if she doesn't understand how to use what is provided.
