In March 1937 he led the FARE in the Battle of Guadalajara. in December 1938 he went to Moscow in order to negotiate a shipment of weapons for the Spanish Republican Army in Catalonia

In February 1939, Segismundo Casado asked him to join the plot against Negrin, but he rejected. On March 6 he left Spain with Juan Negrin. After that, he went to Romania and died there in 1966.
