Three World War completes a trilogy of stories starring Machiko Noguchi, after the original Aliens vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator: War. The story also serves as a sequel to both the Aliens and Predator series from the previous year, containing references to and characters from those stories. Finally, it also incorporates concepts introduced in the 2010 film Predators, specifically the idea of a civil war amongst Predator subspecies. In the Aliens vs. Predator comics line, Aliens vs. Predator: Three World War was preceded by Alien vs. Predator: Civilized Beasts, published concurrently with Aliens vs. Predator: Special Collector's Edition, and was followed by Alien vs. Predator: Fire and Stone.
