  • The Hans, or the Han people (Listen (help·info): /no rɛ́n hán/) (Han: 노File:Uppitchtone.png렌File:Uppitchtone.png한, tr. Norén Hán) is a term referring to a Han ethnic group, consisting of individuals of varying levels of both Chinese and Austronesian ancestry, and those who have adopted Han culture (known as ethnic and cultural nationalism), as opposed to being tied with citizenship and allegiance (known as civic nationalism). Despite the ethnic group being found primarily in the Han archipelago, which is within the geographic boundaries of Southeast Asia, Hans refer to themselves as East Asians as they are more phenotypically similar and have extensive cultural ties with the region.

Despite the ethnic group being found primarily in the Han archipelago, which is within the geographic boundaries of Southeast Asia, Hans refer to themselves as East Asians as they are more phenotypically similar and have extensive cultural ties with the region. Holding their origins within the late Tondo and Yi periods, contemporary Hans are unified by a culture heavily influenced by Confucian ethics and Theravada Buddhism superimposed on a substratum of local beliefs and customs, as well as a contemporary pop culture influenced by modern Western trends. Mostly part to heavy assimilationist policies during the Yi period, Hani has developed into a relatively homogenous country, with three-fourths of its people being of Han ethnicity.
