  • The Very Reverend Canon James Mahoney Ph.D. (1873-28 September 1938) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and Labour Party politician. Born in St Margaret's at Cliffe on the Kent coast, he was ordained as a priest in 1900. He was curate at St. Peter's, Woolwich 1900-06, and rector at St. Anselm's, Dartford 1906-16. In 1916 he became parish priest of the parish of the Assumption, Deptford. In 1927 he was created a rural dean and in 1933 he was appointed to the honorary rank of canon. He retired in 1937 due to ill health, and died in Deal, Kent in the next year. He was buried in Brockley Cemetery.
