When Angriff Squadron was requisitioned by Grand Admiral Thrawn two years after Yavin, Kavan was stationed aboard the Chiss' command ship, the Admonitor. One year later, following a series of personnel transfers that separated Angriff Squadron, Kavan reorganised the remainder into Punisher Squadron, recruiting pilots from other squadrons to fill out numbers. Kavan would continue to serve as the commander of Punisher Squadron until his death eight years after Yavin. He was succeeded by Norvan Cheval.
