When Rin breaks into the prison to save Manji, she and Doa are confronted by Asaemon in Manji's cell; Asaemon, in turn, is killed by Manji. His liver is later used by Manji as medicine for Makie's tuberculosis, despite her aversion to idea of consuming human liver.
