  • Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, alternatively Mother Arrogance who was born Rita Antoinette Rizzo on April 20, 1923 in Canton Ohio, is a Roman Catholic nun and evangelist who founded the right-wing Catholic (EWTN) Eternal Word Television Network which mirrors conservative and traditional teachings, even though some are nuts. She is also simply known as Mother Angelica. In 1944 she entered the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, a Franciscan religious order for women as a postulant. She was admitted to the order as a novice in 1945. She went on to found a new house for the order in 1962 in Irondale, Alabama, where the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is headquartered and went on to be founded later on by her. In 1996 she initiated the building of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of the Angels monastery in Hanceville, Alabama. Mother Angelica hosted shows on EWTN and did "Mother Angelica Live" which was her show until she suffered a stroke in 2001. She resides at the monastery in Hanceville. She is such a conservative extremist that one would think the Rugrats character and bully Angelica Pickles would have been named after her and she could have been "Sister Angelica".
