It serves as a sequel to Food Chain Climbers: Fishing Lifeguards (2016). Distributed by Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures and produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Illumination Entertainment, Blumhouse Productions, DreamWorks Pictures and LStar Capital, the film released on February 22, 2017. This is the first film in the series to be distributed by Columbia Pictures. A sequel, Food Chain Climbers: Food Fest Olympics, released on March 10, 2017.
