  • It is first found on the floor in the first room of the tunnels. The knife is used here as part of a puzzle to open the door, along with an Obsidian knife and Obsidian mace. To open the door, the mace must be placed on the western pedestal and the sword on the eastern pedestal. It is also one of the weapons found on the floor of the fourth room of the tunnels. It must be used on the northwestern pedestal as part of the puzzle to open the door. A sword is used once again in the seventh room of the tunnels. It should be placed on a pedastal marked "Xil".
  • You can create it in your Crafting Menu (default key "Q") or at Crafting Tables (that still exist in older worlds created before September 2015) after unlocking the recipe by crafting/taking a Stone Sword. To craft 1 Obsidian Sword, you'll need (as of R27 in January 2016): Crafting/taking the Obsidian Sword will unlock the recipe for the Iron Sword. Very rarely you can find Obsidian Swords in Iron Treasure Chests on the underground Lava Layer (since R22) or as pet-harvest from Keepas.

Text
  • Among the natives the Nahuatla obsidian-edged sword is considered the 'chief' of weapons, with the widely-used atl-atl, or spear-thrower, as the well-respected 'shaman'. Beyond that, in descending order of worth, we have the large, two-handed club favored by the strongest natives; the hand-thrown spear; the stone axe used by most native warriors; the primitive short-bow used by nearly every tribe for both warfare and hunting; the solid wood club; the rock hammer, a single-handed club; the scalpel - sharp Nahuatla obsidian knife, more practical as a tool than a weapon; and, finally the relatively rare boomerang.''

To craft 1 Obsidian Sword, you'll need (as of R27 in January 2016): * 3 Obsidian (bars) made in a Forge from Obsidian Ore * 2 Stone Rods made of Stone, Limestone or Bedrock in a Processor or found in Stone Treasure Chests * 4 Miru Eyes obtained from Mirus on the Stalactite layer either as a Pet-harvest or loot, or from Corrupted Mirus (only from Loot Bags) * 4 Sinews obtained from many creatures, especially Leafies, either as a loot or Pet-harvest Crafting/taking the Obsidian Sword will unlock the recipe for the Iron Sword. Very rarely you can find Obsidian Swords in Iron Treasure Chests on the underground Lava Layer (since R22) or as pet-harvest from Keepas. To use any sword you must right-click on it in the inventory which will place it into the weapon-slot next to your character's portrait. Afterwards you can switch between weapon-mode, tool-mode and harvest-mode with TAB (default key).
