Rumored to be discovered by the Juan Ponce de León, the Fountain was located within on a mysterious island in the Caribbean. Ever since the rumors of the discovery of the Fountain of Youth by the Spanish explorer Ponce de León in 1523, it had been the ambition of many quests. On the Mao Kun Map, the struggle for eternal youth was symbolized by a tug of war between a skeleton and an angel, aligned with the symbol of the Fountain—the Chalices. The Chalices were required, along with a mermaid's tear, in order to perform the Profane Ritual, which was needed to use the Fountain. In 1750, three parties, including a pirate crew, the British, and the Spanish, embarked in a quest for the Fountain.

It may be the result of a freak accident, a plot on the part of the bad guys to incapacitate our heroes, or done on purpose so the characters can relive their childhood (at least temporarily). For some reason this plot is often used in Fanfic, where it's called a De-Aging story. When someone dies in his rejuvenated state, expect him to turn back old immediately. When a Fountain of Youth effect doesn't get reversed and the younger actor replaces the older one in the cast for good, it's also an example of The Nth Doctor. It's common for characters to overdo it in stories involving this trope, often winding up as children, babies, or possibly even regressing out of existence entirely. This may or may not be permanent, but if the character in question was a bad guy, expect it to be permanent; well, at least, until they grow back up the old-fashioned way. Contrast with Overnight Age-Up and Plot-Relevant Age-Up. Compare Really Seven Hundred Years Old and Merlin Sickness. See also Healing Spring. Examples of Fountain of Youth include:

Stories of similar waters were also evidently prominent among the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean during the Age of Exploration, who spoke of the restorative powers of the water in the mythical land of Bimini. The legend became particularly prominent in the 16th century, when it became attached to the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León, first Governor of Puerto Rico. According to an apocryphal combination of New World and Eurasian elements, Ponce de León was searching for the Fountain of Youth when he travelled to what is now Florida in 1513. The Fountain of Youth contains water that, when drunk, renders the drinker immortal and unable to age. Frau Pfefferkuchenhaus owns a small vial of the water that she had hoped to sell to a human for a large amount of money. However, in a spate of thefts, the vial was stolen by Cinderella's three mice, who stole the water for Tom Baxter, who tried to combine it with the Wonder Clock and the Wand of Merlin to make himself young again, and in his mind, befitting of his wife. It is unknown where the fountain is located.
