| abstract | - A bullfight is a popular sport in Spain where a matador uses a red cape to taunt a bull into charging at him, usually for the purpose of wearing the bull down. In mainstream Smurfs media, Lazy in the episode "Smurf Me No Flowers" decides to engage in a bullfight when he believes that he has only a few days to live. His fellow Smurfs, believing that Lazy would not be able to stand against a wild bull, swapped out a harmless cow disguised as a bull and made it appear as if it were charging at Lazy. The same character in the comic books also had a bullfight held in the Smurf Village coliseum, but the beast he was taming turned out to be a snail. In the episode “Papa Loses His Patience”, the time-lost Smurfs went to Spain as they met El Gargo, an impatient bullfighter. But when he got Papa Smurf’s patience, he became successful in bullfighting and defeated all the bulls. His success ended when he was defeated by a robot bull, which was made by Handy Smurf to restore Papa’s patience. In the comic book version of “The Smurfs And The Howlibird” Papa Smurf also used some bullfighting skills to defeat the Howlibird after it had been stripped of its feathers.
