That would prove to be a career-best Jernigan's other two races came in 1951, when he started the year off back on Daytona Beach. But this time, Jernigan struggled there, finishing 46th among the fifty-four competitors. He was able to improve at Hillsboro, but still only finished a mid-pack 21st place there.
