Guybrush needed the Bannana Picker (which was the alternative key to open the monkey head, although entrance to the cavern of meat was sealed), to grab onto a lach which would open the mouth of he monkey head. The Bronze Hat was needed to open the entrence to the control room of the Monkey Robot. The Gubernatorial symbol was literally the key to activate the robot.
