He then joined the senior Toronto Marlboros and got a one-game callup to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1948-49. The next year he won the Allan Cup with the Marlboros.

In 1951-52 Johansen joined the Ottawa Senators and played for them until they folded in 1954-55. After that he played minor pro until he retired in 1965. In 1968 he made a comeback with his hometown senior Fort William Beavers and retired for good in 1970. His son, Trevor, later played for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
