He did, in the form of Gideon Corey and the Solace Colony. He signed on, bringing with him his mate and now-two children. He worked in the security department, which became especially necessary after the colony was established on Solace Station. He was a member of the detail which Gideon led into the bowels of the station to end their troubles. When Gideon suggested that he stay behind with his family, he scoffed at the notion. He was a soldier, and he was going to fight for his family, not sit idly by and hope for the best. He was also a true friend to his colleagues; the Gand Pr'seyd had to remind him of his family before he left his side, and he carried Gideon away from the explosives that would soon be saving them all. When they did escape, though, Carveik was confronted with another trauma: the death of his mate. Lai Ceal had fought against the corrupted councilor Werro Prell, and in so doing, she had been slain. Carveik, left to care for their three cubs, left the security detail for what would later become the Kuras Tetrarchy. He simply had too many scars, and he wanted to live the rest of his life in the peace of fatherhood. His hopes were dashed, however, when the Scautus Order took over the colony's new world, Kuras IV, in 17 ABY. He helped Kiuwo establish a tunnel network during the Second Kurasian Rebellion. Because of his actions, General Enscu ordered that he be arrested; during the Ganks' attempt to do so, Carveik's two sons were killed. He fought in the Third Battle of Kuras IV, seeking vengeance for his sons. When it was over, he took his daughter, Docas, and left Kuras IV to work as an explorer in the Unknown Regions. After several weeks in the Unknown Regions, he and his daughter encountered and were captured by the Varanian Brethren.
