| abstract | - Stener was a Danteri male who served as a tax collector during the occupation of Xenex in the early 2350s. Stener was responsible for collecting taxes in the city of Calhoun and its environs, and often rode about on a pok and was accompanied by a varying number of guards for his protection and backup against the sneering crowds of Xenexians. On a very hot day in 2351, Stener went on his rounds accompanied by three guards, first visiting Calhoun and then traveling on to the smaller village of Moute. Unbeknownst to Stener and his guards, they were being trailed by the young Xenexian rebel, M'k'n'zy of Calhoun, who soon launched an attack on Stener and his guards at the first opportunity. Taking out the three guards by hurling stones at them and rendering them unconscious, M'k'n'zy rounded on the collector with his sword. However, M'k'n'zy was prevented from murdering Stener, when one of the guards came around and quickly leapt to the defense of Stener. With M'k'n'zy occupied with the soldier, Stener rode off on his pok. (NF - The Captain's Table novel: Once Burned)
