  • Ernie Young is a former NASCAR driver from Lakewood, CA. He competed in fourteen Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning two top-ten finishes. Young's debut came in 1954, when he competed at Gardena. Starting 27th in the field of thirty-two, Young had a late race hub issue and finished 24th. He didn't fare too much better the rest of the year, driving to a 22nd place effort at Oakland and then a 32nd place showing at San Mateo. Young, though, managed to fare better during his three-race stint in 1955, finishing in the top-twenty in all three starts. He was 19th at Phoenix to start off the year, 14th at Tuscon despite overheating issues and then a season-best 9th at Vegas to close out the year. Young's busiest year would be the next, competing in five races in 1956. He did not manage to crack the top-ten in any of those starts, failing to finish three of his races (best finish of 20th at Sacramento during that stint). During the other two, however, Young ran well - finishing 19th at Phoenix and 11th at San Mateo. Young scaled it back down to two races during the 1957 season, starting the year back off at Sacramento. He again failed to finish the event and was 21st. He also failed to finish the event at San Jose, but despite that ran well the entire day and crashed late enough in the event to still manage a career-best 4th place finish. Finally, Young's final race would come in 1958, when he competed at Riverside. Starting 8th in the large field of forty-six, Young kept it near the front all day, ending his career with a solid 15th place run.
