abstract
  • The Commission for the Nomination of a Pooh-bah was special commission formed by the Botchok Planetary Congress (BPC), the government of the Orion homeworld of Botchok and the alleged government of the Orion Colonies. After the Federation sent its first diplomatic delegation to Botchok on reference stardate 0/9101.13 (c. 2163), it became confused by the BPC's lack of specific roles for its members, even for important tasks, and the arguments over who took responsibility, credit, and blame. The embassy insisted on some sort of order and suggested certain officers with specific titles doing defined work. The idea was surprisingly popular and for over a year the BPC merrily assigned Ministers for ever smaller and more ridiculous tasks, culminating in a Minister for Simplifying Government. When the exasperated ambassador wondered if they would name a Pooh-bah as well, the BPC immediately founded the Commission for the Nomination of a Pooh-bah, which made some half-hearted research into the position. The Commission produced a report, but this was later deleted from the official record, and the appointment of joke ministers decreased. The Pooh-bah was not elected.
