  • Give no face (deleted 22 Mar 2008 at 17:54)
rdfs:comment
  • A give no face is a facial expression formed by relaxing all the facial muscles and above all, not smiling. It is most commonly seen among adolescents in the San Francisco Bay Area. One aspect of this culture of 'giving-no' is the comparison of one's give no face with those of one's friends. It has become a quintessential part of daily life for many high-school students in the region, and has started to make inroads into other regions, like Boston and New York City. Members of the San Francisco Ballet are a hotbed of activism, involved in the spread of this experience throughout their lives and their work, often performing these faces while on stage.
