Whoa, that was weird. Interesting idea, but you go overboard even while you were correctly trying to go overboard. You went into territory that stopped being funny and just makes the reader impatient. Replace the stuff that isn't very funny with more scifi crap.

How about "nearly nearly adequate"? Mediocre idea, bad execution.
