Rahho was murdered only nine months after Ganni's death, in the same city of Mosul.

Father Ganni was ordained priest in Rome in October 2001 after studies at the Pontifical Irish College, where he had arrived in 1996 after completing an engineering degree at Mosul University. He returned to Iraq after the ousting of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
