  • Mantle snails were distinguished by their red, bumpy skin and their gray shells, which were tipped in a strange feathery appendage that acted as a heat sink. With their tough skin, natural heat sink, and cooling body slime, they were actually at a comfortable temperature at the edge of magma oceans. They were even more protected inside their shells, which could endure surface magma for several seconds. They were adored by the Drijokenleein, but their extreme habitat made them impractical pets; they could not live long in cool environments.

abstract
  • Mantle snails were distinguished by their red, bumpy skin and their gray shells, which were tipped in a strange feathery appendage that acted as a heat sink. With their tough skin, natural heat sink, and cooling body slime, they were actually at a comfortable temperature at the edge of magma oceans. They were even more protected inside their shells, which could endure surface magma for several seconds. The ikarkohs would often crawl along the mantle shores, disguised as half-molten rock as they gulped down heat-thriving bacteria and fungi. They fought over their food with mantle lizards, but had no natural predators. They were adored by the Drijokenleein, but their extreme habitat made them impractical pets; they could not live long in cool environments.
