  • Tong of the Black Madonna
rdfs:comment
  • The Tong of the Black Madonna is an Asian cult that worships a (presumably) female abomination. They have existed for a thousand years, and this has made them very arrogant. They also like to use necromancy, such as when they attack Bladedancer through her dreams. They threaten Gateway and Chaka's families in order to obtain Destiny's Wave. This result in a massive attack from Dr. Diabolik, the Syndicate and other enforcers of Whateley neutrality, while others move to protect the families.

The Tong seems to be most active in the Indochinese Peninsula, doing much of their business around the Golden Triangle. Their four known major temples (which doubled as operational centers) were: 1. * The River Temple, outside Sawankhalok, Thailand. Besides being one of their premier holy sites, this temple's operations included opium fields and a yaba factory, responsible for as much as 43% of the Tong's income. This temple was the main target of the Syndicate's attacks, and was presumably entirely destroyed. 2. * The Sea Temple, near Kampot, Cambodia. It includes pirate docks, which were the only part of the temple targeted by the Syndicate. 3. * The Iron Temple in Mandalay, Myanmar. The Syndicate intended to flood it with raw sewage. 4. * The Mountain Temple near Muong Sing, Laos. The Syndicate planned a non-lethal missile strike to cover it with red paint. With the Tong weakened after the various punitive attacks made on Whateley's behalf, a splinter sect called The Fierce Wind who opposed certain of the Tong's activities took the opportunity to move in. All the temples of the Tong, except the two ones controlled by splinter group, were destroyed, desecrated or damaged beyond repair. The main Tong is reported as "destroyed" and The Fierce Wind apparently is uninterested in continuing the war against the Handmaid. It's unknown if those claims are actually true.
