  • Player Moderators are regular players chosen by Jagex staff to help combat rulebreaking. Player Moderators are just like normal players, with a few exceptions: Mute Ability - In extreme cases of rulebreaking, Player Moderators are capable of muting RuneScape's worst scoundrels for a period of 48 hours. Jagex keeps a close eye on this ability however, making sure that it is neither abused nor misapplied. Player Moderator Forums - Player Moderators have access to additional forums where moderating issues are discussed. Aside from the above, Player Moderators are no different than you or me.
  • Player Moderators (colloquially pmods or just mods) are FunOrb' players chosen specifically by Jagex staff due to their commitment to the in-game community. They are ambassadors of the game and help to maintain an enjoyable in-game environment. Other types of moderators include Forum Moderators and Jagex Moderators.
  • A Player Moderator, also known as a PMod, is a player chosen by Jagex to help monitor and maintain the in-game RuneScape environment. Player Moderators have the ability to issue a 48-hour mute to any abuse reports they submit. In-game, they can be identified with a silver crown or a silver star if they are members of the gold Premier Club. One must accept an invitation by Jagex from the Message Centre to receive this position.
  • Player Moderators can be recognised by having a silver crown (File:Player moderator emblem.png) visible next to their name when they speak in-game. However, it is not present in their username when right clicking. Also, the crown cannot be disabled or hidden. In addition, there is no way to identify a Player Moderator on the RuneScape forums as their posts appear the same as a regular player. Being a Player Moderator is a volunteer role and they gain no advantages, such as free membership or any in-game advantages.

Anyone who claims to be a Player Moderator without a crown can be reported (for staff impersonation) using the report abuse menu. While acknowledged as not actually being hired members of the Jagex Staff (only regular players with extra entrusted tools), the rule is still applicable to impersonation of them.

  • A Player Moderator (also known as a Player Mod or P Mod) is a player with additional abilities to help them keep rule-breakers from breaking any more rules. Player moderators' reports have priority over regular players; in other words, Jagex staff look at their reports first. They also have the ability to mute other players for 48 hours and send multiple reports at once (whereas a normal user may only send 1 report per minute). If a Player Moderator talks, they will always be heard, even if a player switches their Public Chat to Off. The only way to not see a Player Moderator's chat in the Chat Box is by completely filtering it out (by click another chat button).

Therefore, they are still subject to the same rules as a normal player. As well as this, they receive no extra benefits, either in game or real life as a result of being a moderator. You should never give a player moderator your password, even if they ask for it, and if you see a player moderator breaking any rule, they should be reported. Player moderators will always have a silver crown (File:Pmod icon.gif) next to their name when they talk in game. This crown cannot be removed, and there is no crown shown for player moderators on the forums. The only exception to this are Dual Moderators who have green crown (File:Forum mod crown.gif) when posting on Forums. If a player without a silver crown beside their name claims to be a player moderator, they should be reported for Rule 5. Similarly, if a player claims to know a Player Moderator and uses this in an attempt to persuade a user one way or another, or attempts to scam or hack the player, they can be reported under the same rule.

While acknowledged as not actually being hired members of the Jagex Staff (only regular players with extra entrusted tools), the rule is still applicable to impersonation of them. A Player Moderator has two direct approaches to rulebreakers. The first is through priority abuse reports. All abuse reports filed by Player Moderators are directed to a separate group of Jagex staff members. The second way is through administering temporary mutes with their report. However, new Player Moderators are given a "Suggest a mute" instead of a temporary mute option. This is to settle in new moderators into their role as part of a training period. Once Jagex has assessed the judgement of the moderator and the reports marked for muting would have been applied correctly, then the moderator would be given the normal mute option. Occasionally when a player is being particularly defiant towards the rules, a mute is required so that other players can no longer see his or her text. A Player Moderator's mute is a safety precaution to help prevent the player in question from causing any more harm to themselves or others, as it will effectively stop any attempts to talk freely. Jagex provides Player Moderators with muting guidelines, and mutes are, according to Jagex, checked to ensure that they are correct. Any incorrect mutes may be lifted, and if a Player Moderator regularly mutes without proper reason, his or her moderator status may be removed. As soon as a Jagex Moderator checks the report, the mute is lifted and a subsequent punishment is then applied if it is needed. Players muted by Player Moderators are able to use quick chat. Private messages sent by a Player Moderator are visible when private chat is turned off, though Player Moderators are unable to send subsequent messages or see that the player is online via his/her friends' menu. However, players will not see text written by a Player Moderator if they are added to that player's Ignore List. Player Moderators have access to additional forum sections and the P-Mod Room, in which they can discuss moderator issues with Player and Jagex Moderators. They also have access to the Player Moderator Centre. Jagex states that content discussed within these areas is strictly confidential, and any Player Moderator who reveals content within these areas will lose their moderator privileges.
