  • The Atlantic Heritage Society is a philanthropic society that tries to promote cultural exchange between Europe and the United States. Activities include arranging scholarships, tours of fine art and historical artifacts and concert tours as well as work with Landmark designation and Historical Preservation. At the same time it also closely cooperates with a number of mystic groups and functions as support for their activities. The mystical involvement of the Atlantic Heritage Society can be traced back to the time of Prof. Emerson Thurwell's tenure on their board of directors 1923 - 1951. They started to buy up rare and valuable books at above at that time very low market rates from academics who had brought them with them when fleeing from the Europe of the 1930s, largely to help those refuges. A disproportionate number of the rare books they accumulated in this way were esoteric works. At the same time Thurwell, who was known as Vampire Hunter and continuously being involved with the supernatural, started using the Society as cover for groups of mystics and monster hunters including the Mystic Six, Dr. DeLusignan’s Great White Hunters and the Esoteric Order of St. Michael. This practice continues. The mystics working with them have access to the collection of esoteric books and use the Society as a meeting place, but they exert no control over the Society proper. The collection is usually safely stored in the Rare Volumes vault and the Controlled Climate vaults, which also safeguard various items of arcane power deposited there. On November 8 2006 the Atlantic Heritage Society was unsuccessfully raided by members of the Grand Hall of Sinister Wisdom
