  • An auction is an archaic form of commerce where goods are separated into lots and are offered for sale to the highest bidder. Auctions are not unknown in the Federation, but they are more often practiced by more financially-minded races, like the Ferengi and the Orions. Auctions are frequent means of slave trading. (DS9: "Q-Less", "Body Parts"; ENT: "Borderland")

  • The auction is the first stage of a deal, in which player calls to determine the contract. The auction starts when the dealer makes a call, and ends with either when * all four player passes, or * there is a bid, and there are three consecutive passes afterwards. In duplicate bridge, the auction period starts when cards are removed from the board, and ends when the opening lead has been turned face up.
  • Auction is a fast-paced card game involving multiple players. The entire goal of the game is to both not be "sold" and to "sell" someone else. Often, games of Auction can become very loud as players attempt to "sell" their friends.
  • File:Auction icon.png The Auction system allows players to bid for items found on adventures with silver. Players may only bid after their hero has completed 10 adventures, which means the auction is not available until at least day 4.
  • The in game auction system is a way for players to sell excess items to other players. Speak to the Auctioneer to access the auction.
  • Participants bid openly against one another, with each subsequent bid required to be higher than the previous bid. An auctioneer may announce prices, bidders may call out their bids themselves or have a proxy call out a bid on their behalf. The auction ends when no participant is willing to bid further, at which point the highest bidder pays their bid. Alternatively, if the seller has set a minimum sale price in advance (the 'reserve' price) and the final bid does not reach that price the item remains unsold. Sometimes the auctioneer sets a minimum amount by which the next bid must exceed the current highest bid. The most significant distinguishing factor of this auction type is that the current highest bid is always available to potential bidders.

  • An auction was an event at which goods, divided into lots, were offered for sale and sold to the highest bidder. Several races were known to practice auctions, including the Orions and the Ferengi. The Orions maintained a slave labor market in the 22nd and 23rd centuries, in which people – rather than goods – were sold as commodities. Nine crew members from Enterprise NX-01 were abducted by the Orions in 2154 and auctioned off as slaves on Verex III. (ENT: "Borderland"). Bridal auctions were a traditional part of Ferengi weddings. • When placing a bid, you might not always beat the highest bidder and consider that even if your name appears to be winning now, a player can still outbid you in the last seconds of the auction. You can verify the winner by seeing an in-game pop-up stating you have won. You can also now see the current highest bid which previously in Trade you could not. There is also now a filter to help find what you are looking for. While it does not go to the exact item you want you can pick out the type (lasers, generators, designs, etc).

  • Next up, Ladies and Gentlemen, is this lovely trope about putting items up for sale. Not at a fixed price, but allowing people to put their own price on the item, as long as it's higher than the last price named. These are called bids. It can be used for your basic comedies, dramas, thrillers and all situations with a need for tension, ladies and gentlemen. You can get your Mac Guffins being fought over with good guys and bad guys trying to out bid each other. For a limited time only, get this with the random civilian who starts bidding unaware of what they've got before them thus messing up everyones plans. Perhaps you just need a straight forward plot device to get you item from A to B? Well this is what you need. It makes a great laundering system for spy secrets and mafia money. You might think this bidding system is just for getting the item, it can be used as a sting wherein the heroes drive up the bargain to find out who the villain (who desperately needs it) really is. As with all models in this range, you'll be getting the opportunity to signify wealth and opulence like you'll rarely find elsewhere. Somedays you'll just find yourself taking a character to the auction just to spend exorbitant amounts of money on random pieces to signify how wealthy they are. Expect the audience to gasp as mister moneybags raises the bids to an unprecedented level. Oh no, this isn't just an ordinary trope, everyone. It's a Super-Trope, encompassing: * Accidental Bid. * Auction of Evil * Bachelor Auction * Whammy Bid Shall I start the bidding at 20 Bonus Points? Thank you. Do I hear 25? Yes, good sir. 30? 30 made of win points? Going once--30 from the main in the brown hat. Do I hear 35? 35, it is. Now 40 from the woman with the blue hair ribbon. 40 going once, twice, SOLD! When Quark broke Ferengi law in 2372, the punishment enacted by the FCA involved revoking his Ferengi business license and seizing all of his belongings to be auctioned off to the lowest bidder. (DS9: "Body Parts") After death, the bodies of many Ferengi were subjected to vacuum desiccation and then auctioned on the Ferengi Futures Exchange. (DS9: "Body Parts", "The Ascent") According to Ferengi religious beliefs, the spirit of the deceased would enter the Divine Treasury if they had led a profitable life, after which they would be able to bid for a new life from the Celestial Auctioneers. (DS9: "Little Green Men") Auctions were regularly used by the Ferengi as a means of conducting business, and Quark held several auctions in his bar, with Quark himself serving as the auctioneer.
