Hakoda did his best to avoid the attention of the Galactic Empire but was eventually discovered, around 3 BBY. The Empire wanted to execute him but his two children offered their services to the Empire if he was left alive. They agreed, and Hakoda was left alone by the Empire. Sokka became a corporal in the Imperial Army while Katara worked as a nurse.
