Despite Ira Behr informing Somers that the draft would not be rewritten, Baum took a shot at it, but the result was still unsatisfactory until Michael Piller and James Crocker performed another rewrite of the script. (The Official Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Magazine issue 6, pp. 61) Prior to his Star Trek work, he wrote for The Young Riders, In the Heat of the Night, and Rags to Riches. After working on Star Trek, he continued writing for several years, producing scripts for a variety of shows including Lonesome Dove: The Series and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
