Michelan had many children, seven of them male, but due to decadence within his offspring as well as some unfortunate early deaths, Michelan appointed his youngest son, Barbarossa Rugner as his heir before his death. However, after his passing, Michelan's lack of political will led Geil to be able to force through an act through the House of Lords impeaching Barbarossa and beginning the Scarlet Moon Succession War.
