Butler represented the Gorillas in the 2005 CHL All-Star Game and the Rocky Mountain Rage in the 2008 CHL All-Star Game. On July 17, 2012, the Fort Wayne Komets signed Butler to an ECHL contract. Butler would play the entire season with the Komets, picking up two goals and sixteen assists. On October 29, 2013, it was announced Butler would return to the CHL, playing for the Brampton Beast.
