  • __NOWYSIWYG__ Although it's not the most active facet on here right now, I think the time has come to say something about the current state of our featured articles system. As it says on the page, any candidate must already be A-class articles. Featured articles maintain their status indefinitely, although the latter can be removed. Since there are only a limited number of A-Class articles to choose from, only two of which are Legend of Korra-specific (Amon and Duels (170 AG), there's not much to choose from when nominating an article to be featured. In fact, only nine A-Class articles have yet to be featured, one of which is currently nominated: * The Day of Black Sun, Part 1: The Invasion * The Day of Black Sun, Part 2: The Eclipse * Duels * Duels (Spring 100 AG) (up for nomination now) * Duels (Spring 270 BG - Winter 100 AG) * Duels (Summer 100 AG) * History of Katara (Spring 100 AG) * Jackalope * Water skin Even if we did just have a "Duels and Days of Black Sun marathon" for a few months, it only delays the inevitable, and while featured articles aren't getting the most attention nowadays, it's something that we, like most wikis have, that shows up on the main page. So, it's a conversation that should be had sooner or later, and now's as good a time as any to address this. Personally, I think we ought to be flexible when considering our options, as the wiki activity has fluctuated a lot of late. Eliminate the requirement: If users could nominate articles that weren't A-class yet, it would be easier to find one. This would also be the most simple solution to implement, as there would be no additional processes involved. On the downside, there would be no guarantee that the articles would be of high-quality, and when an article is chosen, it is meant to represent just that, the quality of the wiki, for as long as it's featured. Get more A-class articles: The only way that articles can be promoted to A-class is by a vote of the Standards Council. Therefore, having more A-class articles would require: A) the Standards Council becoming active again or B) a new process by which articles can achieve A-class status. Regarding A, this could include opening up elections to add another member or two to the council, which is supposed to happen every so often according to their pages, but hasn't in over two years. Regarding B, I wouldn't really know where to start with that. -- 17:59, June 19, 2014 (UTC) I would at least be open to getting the Standards Council up and running again; I think we have seen capable faces who could put us back up to five slots and thus help it get rebooted for a check of articles that could be A-Class. We have had plenty of new articles with LoK B2, with more soon to come once B3 starts. Plus, several articles are capable of receiving the designation. So, I would favor another round of activity for SC with new members. 19:12, June 19, 2014 (UTC) I'm on the same boat as PSU. File:Waterbending emblem.png Water Spout 19:15, June 19, 2014 (UTC) Why did that activity stop in the first place? It's highly likely there are articles that are completed enough to at least be nominated for B-class. 22:10, June 19, 2014 (UTC) I'm not entirely sure, but the ranking probably stopped since there were higher priorities for the members of the SC, and since they were the only ones who could nominate much less bump an article up to first class. Nevertheless I'm sure reviving the SC and introducing new members will get everything up and running again. File:Waterbending emblem.png Water Spout 23:09, June 19, 2014 (UTC) i for sure agree that the standards council should be up and running again, but in the meantime, i think we should include b-class articles in the featured article candidate pool. Intelligence4 (wall • contribs) 04:15, June 21, 2014 (UTC) As one of the culprits for the lack of activity: I indeed just didn't have/make the time to classify due to other project on/off the wiki. However, my exams are ending next week, meaning that I have more time to increase, well, reactivate, activity with the council. That said, I am not opposed to also giving B-class articles the chance to be featured, since B-class means that they're also above "normal" quality standard. 08:08, June 21, 2014 (UTC) I agree with Lady Lostris. We should also make it possible to nominate b-class articles. That would help us until the SC is ready again. DyingFlameTsui (wall • contribs) 15:02, June 21, 2014 (UTC)
