Possible new employers include law firms based in Philadelphia, with some insiders saying Cozen & O'Connor are currently in the lead. Two court sources said Newman, who survived a tough retention election just last November, has told them "the court is no fun" nowadays, and the post-pay-raise attention to legal perks, combined with her grief over her husband, Julius "Dr. Nose" Newman, have made the jurist long for a different job. A Republican who has long been a favorite of former Gov. Tom Ridge and current Gov. Ed Rendell, Newman did not respond to Capitolwire questions about the reports she would leave at year's end. Top staffers and state judges also confirmed Newman has been talking about offers she has received, but Newman has told her Supreme Court colleagues only that she is considering offers
