| abstract | - During the reported 2293 rebellion of Captain Hikaru Sulu and the ISS Excelsior, which in actuality was Captain Sulu and USS Excelsior crew from the counterpart universe, the Malevolent was dispatched along with the ISS Malicious and the Akula-class frigates ISS Revenger and ISS Betrayer to apprehend the Excelsior and the ISS Enterprise-A before the two vessels could enter the Ultima terminus of the Janus Vortex. The four vessels confronted Excelsior and Enterprise at the edge of the vortex phenomenon and dispatched fighters to assault the pair's deflector shields. Excelsior and Enterprise responded in kind, with a flight of fightercraft attacking the Malevolent group. All four loyal Terran vessel were destroyed, forcing the Empire to send reinforcements, the ISS Contemptible and two other Constitution-class ships. While the Enterprise and Excelsior group dealt with Contemptible, a pair of vessels from the Klingon Alliance and Romulan Republic dispatched the final two ships of the Terran armada.
