  • By a consensus vote on Dec 1, 2005, the General Assembly Meeting of the Green Party of Allegheny County enthusiastically supported the nomination of Jason Phillips for Pittsburgh City Council District 3, for a Special Election slated for early 2006. Jason is a 24 year-old resident and community activist on the South Side, and a political science student at the University of Pittsburgh. He is proud of his recent Green Party registration, and is energized to carry forward a Green vision to City Council. Building upon the energy and outreach of the recent mayoral campaign of Titus North, this special election can be a winning race for a Green Party candidate. Because this will be a special election due to the resignation of Gene Ricciardi, there is no petition requirement for major and recognized minor party candidates. The meeting of Dec 1 with Jason was a lively exchange among the 17 people present. Issues of police-community relations, abandoned housing & urban homesteading, the financial bankruptcy of the city, promotion of diversity & equal rights, and green space preservation were among the topics discussed.
