(Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era}) The Armstrong is also said to be one of the first classes to have ship-based transporters as part of its initial design due to the technology becoming available in 2186. Star Trek: Enterprise would later set in canon that ship-based transporter technology had existed since the early-2150s.
