  • The Armstrong class was a class of cruiser fielded by the Federation Starfleet during the 22nd and 23rd centuries. The Armstrong class entered service in 2197 and along with the Venture-class was meant to replace the aging Daedalus-class explorer. The Armstrong shared several design features with the Daedalus. The ship was made up of a spherical primary hull, which was more ovoid than that of the Daedalus, connected directly to a cylindrical engineering hull. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era})

Star Trek: Enterprise would later set in canon that ship-based transporter technology had existed since the early-2150s.
