Synopsis
  • Summoned by the people of Abyssia, the hidden land where Looker received her powers, the Outsiders enter the underground realm, and walk into a trap prepared by the Manhunters. However, Looker had surrounded herself and her teammates with a force-field, so the heroes are able to mount a successful counter-attack on the squad of androids sent to capture them, and destroy them. With their Abyssian allies, Dural and Jonelle, the Outsiders pretend to be captives in order to be taken to the main base of the Manhunters, who have invaded Abyssia after escaping from Aquaman and Aqualad . Their ruse is detected and foiled, however, by the Abyssian Tamira, who has herself gained powers like Looker's and, by forming an alliance with the Manhunters, has made herself ruler of the hidden land. The Outsiders regain their senses to find themselves captives in a dungeon. Looker claims her right as princess of Abyssia to challenge Tamira to personal combat, and the rogue queen agrees. While most of the Abyssians and Manhunters are watching the battle between them, the Atomic Knight and Geo-Force team to free themselves and their teammates from captivity. Then Geo-Force, Black Lightning, and Windfall go to deal with the Manhunters, while Halo, Katana, and the Atomic Knight race to aid Looker. In the arena, the battle takes an unexpected turn, as Looker shatters the illusion which had caused others to see Tamira as beautiful, when in fact she had been horribly deformed when she exposed herself to the comet fragment that gave her Looker's powers. In revenge for this humiliation, Tamira transforms Looker back to her original identity as drab, powerless Emily Briggs. The group of Outsiders led by Geo-Force, aided by the Abyssian underground, destroys the main force of the Manhunters, who had planned to launch a sneak attack against the surface world. Their comrades, however, do not fare as well. Emily Briggs escapes being thrown into a river of lava by Tamira, a fate that instead befalls the mad queen herself. As a final Manhunter attacks, however, Halo throws herself in front of Katana and Emily, and is struck down by his alien weapon, before the Atomic Knight can dispatch the android. Sometime later, Emily is reunited with her husband Greg. At a S.T.A.R. Labs complex in Los Angeles, Halo lies in stasis in a life-support system until Gardner Grayle can find a means to revive her. With their headquarters destroyed and one of their members dead, in addition to the fates that have befallen Looker and Halo, Geo-Force sadly declares that, for the time being at least, the Outsiders shall be disbanded.

quotation
  • I said earlier there would be time enough to lick our wounds later... now seems such a time. I cannot believe our saga is truly over. ...But for now, at least, our story has reached an end.
