Regarded by his superiors as being a skilled spy, Natrom was usually sent deep undercover for long periods of time without contact from the Empire, reporting once every month, or more frequently if important information was uncovered. Code name VERTEX was characterized by his cold, logical approach and merciless efficiency. By the time of the Battle of Endor, Natrom was aboard the flagship of Grand Admiral Zsinj, an Imperial officer who was suspected of providing intelligence to the rebels. Normally, such an affairs would by handled by the Imperial Security Bureau, but Intelligence found out first, and did not want to work with their ISB rivals. Natrom was assigned to the Iron Fist as a gunnery officer, under orders from Imperial Intelligence, where he worked to uncover any evidence possibly linking him to leaking information to the Empire's enemies. Natrom did not uncover any evidence before they received word of the Emperor's death at Endor. Zsinj decided to go warlord, and used his fleet as his personal military force. A week after Endor, Zsinj was going through captured Intelligence records and found out that Natrom was a spy. Liking his skill, Zsinj got the intelligence officer to work for him.
