  • After being taken on as pharmacist Bob Benton's assistant, ten year old Tim Roland accidentally adds formic acid to an experiment Benton is working on. The resulting "formic ethers" gave Benton super strength and invulnerability. Bob sent Tim to a costume shop and then became the Black Terror. Tim picked up a smaller matching costume, unbeknownst to Benton. When Tim learned of a plot to crash a subway train, the Black Terror went to prevent the crash. Tim, thinking the Terror may need help, reproduced the experiment and developed the same powers as the Black Terror.

Tim showed up in the nick of time and the crash was prevented. The Black Terror and his sidekick Tim, together known as the Terror Twins, went on to fight threats both domestic and foreign throughout the 1940s. While Tim Roland went by "Tim" while in costume for most of his appearances, he used the codename "Kid Terror" in his final appearance. In high school, Tim dyed his hair blonde. He carried sneezing powder and magnesium flares to use against his foes. During a visit with the Terror and his college history teacher, Professor Ducayne, Tim discovered that Bob Benton's ancestor had also fought crime in the 17th century as the Black Terror. This Black Terror had his own sidekick Timothy, who seemed identical to Tim. Whether or not they are related is unknown.
