Many years later, Yossel served in the US Army during the Second Great War. Alongside his friend and comrade Armstrong Grimes, he helped suppress the Mormon uprising in Utah during that war and saw action against Canadian rebels. Following Grimes' wounding, Reisen assumed command of their platoon. His comrades frequently joked about his aunt being a Congresswoman.
