Ran was placed in a recovery chamber for days, then fitted with a cybernetic neck joint and mask. He was wiped of his memory and told that he was murdered by the Jedi. He began to work for the CIS behind the scenes and took on a Zabrak Dark Jedi apprentice, Remar. Following the destruction of the Jedi and the CIS, Ran, now known sometimes as Darth Barro, went to live in peace with his apprentice on the planet Stewjon, away from the Imperials. Ran found it difficult to distance himself from fear and paranoia during the Imperial reign, fearing that his old friend Anakin now Vader would come to find him. Whilst still training his apprentice Remar, he opted to leave Stewjon in 16 BBY and return to Coruscant to live in the underworld. Ran had troubles in the Underworld and developed an addiction to gambling. He often spent entire nights drinking and getting into fights, often brandishing his red sword to injure people. He continued his training of his apprentice however, desperate to create a powerful warrior to help him destroy the Imperials. In 4 BBY, he was flying above Coruscant with Remar, Vader was present on Coruscant and sensed his old friend. Vader ordered his troopers to shoot down the ship, which they did, and both Ran and his Zabrak apprentice plunged to their death whilst engulfed in flames.
