Desirability | - The amulet of raw steel provides respectable DV and PV for an amulet, an excellent bonus to perception, as well as death ray, stunning and sleep resistance and the see invisibility intrinsic. Unfortunately, it also contains the essence of Chaos and Corruption, meaning that it causes added corruption every turn that it is carried, and doubly so if it is worn. The amount of corruption accrued is comparable to what would be expected on the lowest levels of the CoC. Unfortunately, none of the effects it protects against are common enough to justify continuous use, and can be acquired through other means that don't corrupt the PC, such as amulets, rings, or the ancient mummy wrapping. The DV and PV bonuses are respectable, but not enormously significant. As a consequence, the only real benefit is the +12 perception bonus, which is not enough to justify its use in many players' minds - particularly because at this point the player already has the Shield of Raw Steel, which is a far better artifact, and also causes corruption. As a consequence of all these things, this artifact is generally avoided except for very specific uses or challenges.
