abstract
  • The Town Hall Secretary worked under Chief Executive Peter Reynolds in 1989. The secretary admitted councillor Deirdre Barlow to Reynolds' office when she was summoned there with some urgency by the Chief Executive. As she had no idea what he wanted to see her about, Deirdre asked the secretary if she knew. The secretary didn't know but her mention of a phone call Reynolds had just received from Ken Barlow gave Deirdre a good idea. Having found out that Ken - and hence the Weatherfield Recorder - had a scoop on Maurice Jones's re-development of Coronation Street, Reynolds suspected Deirdre of being his mole. After what she went through previous month when the council thought she'd leaked Ken another story, Deirdre put the record straight and named another council secretary, Wendy Crozier, as Ken's mole.
