Ginny's wand was eight inches, made of willow, with a rare double core of dragon heartstring and phoenix tailfeather. She began school, like her family, in Gryffindor House. In Ginny's third year, she was secretly resorted into Slytherin House and taken under the wing of Severus Donovan Snape as his apprentice. She was a member of Dumbledore's Army, a branch of the Order of the Phoenix. After the battle at the Ministry in her fourth year, Snape inducted her fully, at her request, into the Order.
