This caused him to speak with a slur. Scarlip has a son, who he is protective of. When Scarlip's son begged an undercover Matt Horner for money during the Flashpoint Conflict, Horner pushed him away. This caused Scarlip and two of his friends to attack Horner and Valerian Mengsk. Valerian beat him and his lackeys using marshal arts, impressing Horner. The crown prince spared Scarlip rather than killing him, as he did not want to deprive a child of a father.
