abstract
  • Gangrim (강림, Ganglim) is the leading commander of Yulryeo's Military, having occupied this position ever since the Sobyeol Dynasty. A faithful servant to the late king Sobyeol, he dismissed his son as weak and unfit to be king, becoming one of the first supporters of Sobyeol's grandson grasp of power. Under his rule, he took up the position of general once again despite being well in his eighties and is personally responinsible for the incredible growth Yulryeo's forces over the last years. Though once a great general, Gangrim's age and experience have left his legs paralyzed and the rest of his body too worn for battle. To the general public, he is either forgotten or assumed to be deceased. A close friend of Sobyeol after he was crowned, Gangrim explored the secrets of shinobi together with his king while they were laying out the groundworks for a militaristic society. While they eventually decided that standardizing and simplifying ninjutsu would be the way to go, Gangrim himself became fascinated by the ancient practice of ninshū and pursued the study of it long after he was already inscripting the nation. Through this, he developed a technique that allowed him to trap the souls of the six greatest opponents he faced in battle and bind them to his own. He now stores these souls in fallen corpses, replacing the body whenever it is damaged sufficiently and they act as his proxies when commanding the troops. At the moment, only Yeomra and Juiz are aware of Gangrim's status and the true identity of the army's commanding officers. All others, friend and foe alike, are under the impression that the six bodies Gangrim controls are in fact acting commanders of the military, especially given how they have no problem acting seperate from each other. Gangrim's actual location is a mystery as well, though it is expected he resides somewhere safe within the palace of Magoseong.
